Business boom in Tasmania

There is no stronger supporter of Tasmania’s 39,448 businesses than the majority Liberal Government.

This is reflected by the latest ABS statistics, which show an increase of more than 1000 businesses (2.6%) for the year (2018-19). The results show Tasmania also recorded the lowest business exit rates in the country.

Importantly, the business survival rate in Tasmania is 59.4 per cent, which is the highest survival rate in Australia, and well above the national average of 53.6 per cent. This demonstrates clearly that Tasmania has the right environment for businesses to not only establish, but also thrive.

These figures are testament we our delivering our commitment to support more businesses, particularly small businesses, to grow jobs and boost our economy.

This is on the back of a long run of independent reports confirming Tasmania's strong economy, backing our state as a great place to invest, work and raise a family.

Tasmanian businesses continue to buck the national trend with business confidence remaining strong and business conditions continuing to improve.* **

With 21,100 more jobs and more than 2400 new businesses since we came to Government, our long term Plan for creating greater opportunities for more Tasmanians is working.

The Tasmanian majority Liberal Government's priority focus is jobs and we know there’s more to do to ensure more Tasmanians benefit. We will continue to deliver our long term Plan to grow the economy, and create 10,000 more jobs in the next four years.
