The Burnie City Council’s announcement concerning the Burnie Surf Club today is not a surprise, though it has taken much too long to get to this point.
This bungle was going to cost the council – and the ratepayers of Burnie – one way or another.
What is disappointing is that Anita Dow, who aspires to be a Labor Member of Parliament, cannot seem to admit in her public comments that it was entirely the fault of her council.
Worse, there has been no disclosure of how much the council will spend to fix this mess.
Will the Burnie Surf Club get a facility at least as good as that which they are losing or will it be short-changed?
There has been an appalling lack of leadership in addressing this bungle.
Unfortunately, the matter is far from resolved.
