Tonight the Burnie City Council will vote on a motion to fix a bungle of its own making.
After dragging its feet for nearly a year, Council will consider how it can ensure the Burnie Surf Life Saving Club continues to have access to function facilities which were removed as a result of the council stuffing up the club lease.
I am very pleased a resolution is in sight because the Burnie Surf Life Saving Cub is a vital and highly respected part of our community.
After publicly raising this issue over two months ago, I was inundated with calls from the community and took those concerns to Council.
The North West Coast community were angry at the Council’s mishandling of the matter and called for the issue to be fixed, but not at ratepayer or club member cost.
Responsibility for this bungle rests with the Burnie Council and must be funded by the Council.
I will be keeping a very close eye on how Council propose to fund the fix and ensure there is no attempt to cost shift to the community.
