Building Your Future through skills funding

Under the Hodgman Government, our economy is growing strongly and the unemployment rate is down.

But we know it is still difficult for people to get a job, and for businesses to find skilled staff.

As part of our Plan to assist both job-seekers and employers, the Government is releasing $4 million of funding from the Tasmanian Skills Fund.

The Fund links employees, training providers and industry sectors together to deliver targeted training and will create around 700 training places for jobseekers in growth areas of the economy, including agriculture, aged care and tourism and hospitality.

The funding will also support professional development in industries including construction, advanced manufacturing and transport.

Today I visited one of Mansfield Builders’ construction sites where Ashley Brooks is completing a Certificate IV in building and construction.  Ashley’s training was funded from the Tasmanian Skills Fund earlier this year and shows how improved access to quality training can open up fantastic opportunities for young Tasmanians.

As part of our Plan to Build Your Future, a re-elected majority Hodgman Liberal Government is aiming to increase the number of people employed in the building and construction sector by 25 per cent over the next five years and if we are going to meet that target, access to quality skills training is vital and that’s what this funding will deliver.
