Building up the economy

Today's ABS construction figures show building activity continues to increase under the Liberal Government.

Tasmania is bucking the national trend and performing strongly across a range of indicators.

The value of total construction work in the September Quarter is 15.4 per cent higher than the same time last year, while engineering construction work done in Tasmania is up 21.3 per cent in the same time.

The value of building work in Tasmania has also increased by 7.5 per cent since the election of a Liberal majority Government.

These figures are another sign our long term Plan is working. Building and business confidence continues to improve, retail trade is at a record high, 3,000 jobs have been created since the election and the unemployment queue is the shortest it's been in 18 months.

The economy is recovering after 16 years of Labor mismanagement and while these early signs are pleasing, we know there is a lot more work to be done.

The Liberal Government is getting on with the job of growing the economy and creating jobs and we are delivering on that commitment to Tasmanians.
