Building Tasmania's future for the next generation

Investing in the wellbeing of children and young Tasmanians is critical for our State’s future and we are committed to delivering Tasmania’s first ever comprehensive, long-term, whole of government Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy.

Today we have confirmed the 2020-21 State Budget will provide funding for the Strategy.

The strategy will not only include the first 1000 days of life, where there is very clear evidence that a good start from conception to age two is vitally important to a child’s development, but will take a longer term focus right through to 25 years of age.

We know that students who have greater wellbeing are more likely to have better educational outcomes, and a better quality of life.

Our Government believes it is vital we build capacity to ensure all families and communities are able to provide safe, nurturing and supportive environments where children can thrive, as nothing is more important than the safety and wellbeing of our children and young people.

Being healthy and having a strong sense of wellbeing helps children and young people to be happier, more resilient, and better able to engage in education, as well as improving long-term health outcomes.

The new strategy will also be crucial in driving better health and wellbeing among young Tasmanians, and we will continue to invest in more of the services young people and their families need, supporting them to live their best lives.

The Tasmanian majority Liberal Government will continue to support our children’s wellbeing, as an investment in Tasmania’s future.
