Building growth continues

The latest ABS statistics confirm that Tasmanian continues to lead the nation in growth in our building and construction sector.

Building approvals in Tasmania are continuing to increase with the latest ABS statistic confirming we are the only State in Australia to see annual and monthly growth in December 2018.

The number of approvals increased by 10.6 per cent in December 2018 in trend terms, compared to December 2017, while there was a decline in building approvals nationally.

The growth in new residential houses also remains strong, with 36 per cent more building approvals in the year to December 2018, compared with the previous year.

In the year to December 2018, there were 254 building approvals on average each month – this compares with just 170 a month in the last year of the Labor-Green Government.

At the same time, in the year to December 2018 the total value of building jobs increased by 41 per cent compared to the previous year.

This is great news for Tasmanians, and another strong indicator that the Hodgman Liberal Government’s plan is working to make it faster and easier to build throughout the State.
