Building approvals highest in the nation

Over the last 12 months, building approvals have increased by an impressive 36 per cent, the strongest growth in the entire nation.  ABS figures released today show that in the month of May alone, building approvals increased by 3.3 per cent, which was by far the biggest increase of any State.

The building and construction sector employs thousands of Tasmanians and is a key driver of the economy, that’s why the Government is supporting the building and construction sector through our First Home Builder Boost, by fixing the planning system and introducing a headworks holiday that has slashed the cost of investing.

We’re also supporting building and construction jobs through our $1.8 billion infrastructure investment program, announced in last month’s budget.

Our long-term Plan is all about driving investment and development because it creates jobs and will make the economy stronger and while there is still a lot of work to do, these stats from the ABS show that we are heading in the right direction.
