Building a Community at Queens Walk

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to investing in affordable housing solutions for Tasmanians in need.

Today, I was pleased to join with residents of Queens Walk Apartments in renaming the four apartment towers as part of building a greater sense of community.

The names – Waratah, Manna Gum, Banksia and Blue Gum – are all indigenous Tasmanian trees and were chosen by the tenants themselves.

Tenants are also coming together to nurture an onsite community garden and they are making use of a community room, which is hosting a range of group events.

Managed by Housing Choices Tasmania, Queens Walk Apartments, at Cornelian Bay, are a great example of how we can all work together to improve housing outcomes.

This fantastic facility, which was redeveloped a little over 12 months ago, is home to a mix of public housing tenants and affordable housing tenants.

The Government is working with the community services sector to better meet the housing needs of Tasmanians, and the renewed life breathed into what we now know as Queens Walk shows what can be achieved.
