In a bizarre move, Bryan Green will today address a rally organised by the very union that is trying to topple him from the Labor leadership.
Over the past few days, it has emerged that the push is growing for David O’Byrne to be parachuted into the Labor leadership given Bryan Green’s disastrous start to the year.
David O’Byrne, of course, has spent many years running the United Voice union at both a Tasmanian and national level. It doesn’t take a genius to work out that United Voice would be backing their former leader over Bryan Green.
Bryan Green’s speech to the United Voice faithful today will be more of a job interview for Mr Green than anything else. It will also be telling to see if Lara Giddings or David Llewellyn refuse to attend the rally about workers’ wages, given that United Voice members and David O’Byrne probably wouldn’t mind seeing those two get more than just a pay cut.
