Tasmania’s popularity as a must see destination shows the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s Plan to grow our tourism sector is working.
We will continue to strongly back our visitor economy which is a major economic contributor and supports over 36,000 Tasmanian jobs right around the state.
We recognise however that the upward trend in visitors can put additional pressure on tourism infrastructure in local communities.
That is why the Government is pleased to announce it will partner with nationally acclaimed tourism operator Rob Pennicott and the Kingborough Council to upgrade essential tourism infrastructure on Bruny Island.
Mr Pennicott will provide $50,000 to improve infrastructure on the island, which the Government and Kingborough Council will both match.
The $150,000 will be used to upgrade infrastructure identified as priority projects by the local community.
This investment will not only enhance the visitor experience on Bruny Island, it will also benefit the local community.
We welcome Mr Pennicott’s funding commitment and encourage other communities to look at ways they can leverage funding from public and private sources to support similar initiatives.
The Tasmanian Government’s support for Bruny is in addition to $220,000 provided for the development of Destination Action Plans (DAP) across the State to improve visitor experiences.
Tasmania has what the world wants and investments in infrastructure to support the growth in our visitor economy are an important part of our Plan to build Tasmania’s future.
