Bracknell Primary School Celebrates 150 years

Congratulations to the Bracknell Primary School on its 150th anniversary celebrations.

I was delighted to join past and present students, families and members of the broader community today for the festivities.

The school moto is ‘Together We Learn’ which sums up perfectly the relationship between the school and its community.

The school began in 1866 at the Methodist church with 63 students. Today 59 students attend though numbers have been above 100 on many occasions. Currently families from Bracknell, Liffey, Blackwood Creek and Bishopsbourne attend.

The Bracknell community spirit is as strong today as ever it was and it’s clear the school is the heart of the small community.

It brings a diverse rural community together proving the truism that it takes a community to raise a child.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is also working to ensure our children have access to the things they need to help them grow and succeed in life.

Our focus is clearly on giving every Tasmanian a better education and greater opportunities in life, which is why we are undertaking the most significant transformation of and investment in the structural reform of education in more than half a century.

This community and its school will continue to play an important role in helping to create opportunities for our Tasmanian children.
