Boxing Day sales

With the post-Christmas and End of Year sales period now upon us, it is timely to be aware of your consumer rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

It is important for both retailers and shoppers to remember that the consumer rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply to all purchases, including sale items.

For example, products should match an advertised description, be fit for purpose, and be defect free. If a product fails to meet the consumer guarantees, consumers are entitled to either a repair, replacement or refund.

Retailers must also ensure that advertised prices accurately reflect the total price, and that any discount is a genuine price reduction.

It’s recommended that consumers also take care to compare prices and reviews on products, use trusted and secure websites when shopping online, and to check shipping costs, fees and delivery times.

For further information about your consumer rights, consumers can visit  www.cbos.tas.gov.au
