The Hodgman Liberal Government is delivering on its commitment to boost front-line police numbers to help keep Tasmanians safe.
During the previous term of Government, we successfully restored police numbers after the savage cuts by Labor and the Greens, and during this term of Government we will recruit a further 125 police officers.
Additionally, we are supporting our officers with better infrastructure and body-worn cameras, and the introduction of a Bill this week to further support front-line workers, including off-duty police officers.
There have already been two graduations for recruits in 2018-19 with Course 1 on December 20, 2018 and Course 2 on April 5, 2019. This has seen overall police numbers increase by 21 officers to 1254 full-time equivalents.
These graduating constables have been posted to Hobart, Glenorchy, Launceston, Burnie and Devonport to start their careers.
Recruitment is on-going with the first course for 2019 currently underway at the Police Academy and second course due to start in August 2019. I would encourage anyone considering a rewarding career in policing to visit the Tasmanian Police website for more details and attend one of the Recruitment Information Sessions being held in Hobart, Burnie, Devonport and Launceston in May.
