Almost 70 new full-time teachers have joined Tasmania’s public education system this year as part of the largest ever recruitment drive for Tasmanian Government schools.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is investing record amounts into our education system and we are committed to employing 358 more staff in our public system.
In 2019, 69 new full-time teachers have started in classrooms in Term one, and today I was delighted to meet three new faces in the teaching ranks at Taroona High.
The successful applicants have been placed into schools across the state, with preference given to regional locations, including Ringarooma Primary School, Dover District School and Flinders Island District School.
Many of our new teachers bring skills, knowledge and experience from within the Department, the Tasmanian private system, interstate and even internationally.
We have had an extraordinary response to the first rounds of recruitment with more than 600 applications received.
The influx provides a huge opportunity to re-shape the education workforce and help reduce the workload of our hard working teaching staff and school principals.
The Hodgman Liberal Government will be investing $145 million on 250 new teachers and 80 teacher assistants over the next six years.
Our targeted investment in education, from birth through to Year 12 and beyond, will ensure Tasmania has a job ready generation with the skills to build our future and take Tasmania to the next level.
