Boosting health and safety at work

Staying healthy and safe at work is everyone’s responsibility, and I encourage all Tasmanians to take part in a WorkSafe Month activity to learn new ways to be safe and healthy in their workplace.

Running from 2-31 October, WorkSafe Month is a statewide effort to raise awareness of work health, safety and wellbeing, and reduce work-related injury, illness and deaths.

The Hodgman Liberal Government wants Tasmania to have the safest workplaces in Australia, and it is pleasing to see a reduction in the number of workplace fatalities and injuries occurring over the past five years.

As encouraging as these figures are, there is still work to be done.

A great way of growing a strong health and safety culture is through WorkSafe Month—an annual event dedicated to lifting the profile of work health and safety in Tasmania.

WorkSafe Month offers free work health, safety and wellbeing events, including a community walk; online seminars; and the state’s first ever work health and safety expo.

The inaugural WorkSafer Expo will be held on 23 and 24 October at Princes Wharf 1. It offers employers, workers and the community the opportunity to access information about work safety, health, wellbeing and return to work in one convenient location.

For a copy of the full Program and to register to attend any WorkSafe Month event, go to www.worksafe.tas.gov.au.
