Boost for Tasmanian arts and cultural production

I am pleased to announce funding of over $2.2 million through Arts Tasmania to support Tasmanian organisations to deliver high quality arts experiences and activities around the state in 2018, further building our creative industries.

Ten organisations will receive new support to develop and deliver arts activities for audiences across the state, and provide valuable professional development opportunities for Tasmanian artists. This is in addition to 11 organisations already funded through multi-year agreements.

Organisations receiving new investment through the Organisations Investment Program include:

  • Design Tasmania has been awarded multi-year Partner Arts investment to exhibit, promote and provide mentoring support for Tasmanian designers and craftspeople. The organisation’s ambitious program includes an exhibition that supports Aboriginal makers to rediscover heritage cultural assets and translate them through a contemporary design framework.
  • DRILL is focused on building a stronger local dance industry from the grassroots, supporting young people through its projects and facilitating their transition to further training. They have been awarded project funding to create and present a major dance work for young people, NEON.
  • Constance ARI is an artist-run initiative that has been awarded funding to create innovative, paid opportunities for artists in 2018 to develop and present new work in a variety of settings. Constance provides Tasmanian visual artists with critical support, resources and audience engagement opportunities to realise projects that align with contemporary arts practice.
  • The Unconformity has been awarded funding for its artistic program that will engage local, Tasmanian, national and international artists in the Queenstown and west coast community in 2018.
