Boat and Caravan Show highlights Tassie way of life

The Tasmanian Outdoor Boat and Caravan Show highlights the very best of our Tasmanian lifestyle and why the Hodgman Liberal Government is Building your Future with a stronger economy and more jobs.

It was my pleasure today to officially open the Show which will run from September 8- 10 at the Silverdome, Launceston.

The Show was originally established five years ago to raise funds for the Tamar Yacht Club to buy rescue boats and dinghies for its junior sailing program. Since then, the Tamar Yacht Club has also donated funds to other sailing clubs such as the Deviot and Port Dalrymple and also Sailability.

The Show will include 50 displays covering a range of outdoor activities including boating and fishing, 4WD and camping accessories, camper trailers and caravans, as well as a new section for 20 private sellers.

Congratulations also to the 50 volunteers involved in running of the show which attracts 10,000 visitors over three days.

Boating, caravanning, four-wheel-driving, recreational fishing and volunteering are activities that define Tasmania’s unique way of life and are strongly supported by the Tasmanian Government .

For example, nearly 60,000 Tasmanians hold a boat licence and recreational boating is worth about $380 million to the Tasmanian economy. Caravan/motorhome use is also huge with tourists in Tasmania and also Tasmanian’s touring on the mainland.

Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST) will also be among the 50 exhibitors at this year’s show and will be promoting replacing life jackets labelled with old Australian Standards numbers 1512, 1499 and 2260.
