The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to keeping Tasmanians safe from the threat of terrorism.
While I want to assure the community there is no specific threat to Tasmania, it is clear we need to be vigilant and alert at all times.
That’s why we were supportive of the Federal Government’s push for stronger parole and bail laws for terrorism-related offences and I am pleased a Bill has today been introduced to Parliament that joins Tasmania with other states in the national effort to prevent and respond to terrorist threats.
Parole and bail should only be granted to terrorist offenders in the most exceptional of circumstances, and this Bill reinforces the Government’s position that community safety should be a primary concern when considering such matters.
