Basslink update

The continued uncertainty about Basslink is exactly why we've outlined a clear plan to ensure energy security even in the event of an extended Basslink outage.

It’s still unclear when Basslink will be fixed and as a Government, it’s our job to make sure that we can maintain energy security for Tasmania in the interim.

The Government continues to plan for all contingencies and will act on the best possible information at the time to ensure Tasmania’s energy needs can be met.

Through our Energy Supply Plan, the Government has already initiated the process, including through regulatory changes, to bring in additional diesel generation to supplement existing on-island hydro generation.

This combined with other measures in our plan, such as operating the Tamar Valley Power Station at full capacity, will more than replace the amount of energy that Basslink was capable of supplying.

There is no doubt that these are difficult and challenging circumstance, but the Government has a plan to ensure that energy security is maintained.
