Swift Progress Achieved at Bald Hill Mine

The Hodgman Liberal Government has welcomed swift progress of mining at Australian Bauxite Limited’s Bald Hill Mine near Campbell Town.

Since the start of works in December, around 10,000 tonne of bauxite has already been mined at the site with around 7,000 tonne screened.

ABx will now proceed to full scale production and export from Bell Bay this year while this project will also provide a lead-in to other potential bauxite deposits in Tasmania.

The success of the Bald Hill Mine comes at the perfect time for Tasmania. The demand for our bauxite is high, the Australian dollar is low, and markets like China are emerging as major consumers of our product.

We need to capitalise on this success and that’s why this Government is sending the message that
Tasmania is open for business.

We will continue to support and work with our mining sector to capitalise on the industry as one of our state's key strengths to create jobs and grow the economy.
