Backing our tourism innovators

Tasmania is an in-demand destination where local, interstate and international visitors seek experiences in our unrivalled natural environment.

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s Expressions of Interest initiative provides an open and transparent means to enable entrepreneurs to bring forward innovative ideas for sensible and appropriate tourism offerings and experiences in our state.

We have a plan to make Tasmania the eco-tourism capital of the world, we have the balance right and will back our operators to make it happen.

Today, the combined value of all projects in the EOI pipeline is approximately $100 million, and those projects have the potential to create more than 250 full time equivalent jobs.

And for those projects already established through the initiative, more than $15 million worth of investment has been generated and more than 50 full time equivalent jobs created.

The EOI initiative also provides greater transparency and public confidence because all proposals assessed as appropriate are made public, and if deemed suitable, must still go through all requisite Commonwealth, State and local council planning and approval processes.

Tourism Tasmania has confirmed the highest rated trigger for people who visited Tasmania in the past 12 months was because they were, “interested in the nature and wilderness”.

We know visitors to our renowned National Parks disperse into regions, spend more per person and more per night, as well as stay longer than the average visitor to Tasmania.

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is the strongest supporter of our vital visitor economy, which supports businesses and jobs right across the state.

We have a plan to make Tasmania the eco-tourism capital of the world and with sensible and appropriate development in our Parks and reserves we are well on our way to achieving that.
