Awards triumph for The Kettering Incident

On behalf of the Hodgman Liberal Government, I am delighted to congratulate the co-creators Vicki Madden of Launceston-based Sweet Potato Films and Vincent Sheehan of Porchlight Films and all those involved in The Kettering Incident on their success at the 2016 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards.

The Government invested $1 million in the eight part series which was filmed in various locations across Tasmania and co-financed by Foxtel, Screen Australia and BBC Worldwide.  It was the largest television series to be filmed in the state and generated a local spend of nearly $6 million while providing 110 jobs for local cast and crew.

These awards are the nation’s premiere awards for screen production, and the success of The Kettering Incident is a credit to Tasmania’s expanding screen industry.

The Kettering Incident was nominated for eight awards and won the awards for:

*             AACTA Award for Best Telefeature or Mini Series

*             AACTA Award for Best Actress in a Television Drama – Elizabeth Debicki

*             AACTA Award for Best Original Music Score in TV – Matteo Zingales and Max Lyandvert

This success follows on from The Kettering Incident winning the Best Telemovie or Mini Series Production category at the 16th Screen Producers Australia Awards 2016.

Tasmania's screen industry has experienced an exceptional 2016 with the screening of the productions such as the television series Rosehaven, the film The Light between Oceans and the much anticipated film Lion to be released throughout Australia on 19 January 2017. Lion will premiere in Tasmania on 21 December 2016 at Hobart’s State Cinema.

With continued investment from the Hodgman Government, we can continue to expect more great work from the Tasmanian screen industry in the coming year.
