Australia's service and sacrifice remembered on ANZAC Day

The Liberal Government is a strong supporter of Tasmania's 11,000 war veterans and ex-service personnel. It is very important that as a community we support those who served our country, reflect on their service, and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Tasmania now has 14 out of Australia's 100 Victorian Cross recipients, meaning Tasmanians in particular have served our nation with distinction, bravery and honour.

The importance of ANZAC Day is as strong as ever in today's community. It provides the opportunity for everyone to pay tribute to Australia's ANZAC soldiers and all those who have represented Australia in war and conflict since that time.

Many services will be held across Tasmania on 25 April 2014, most of which will be organised and delivered by local RSL sub-branches. I encourage all Tasmanians to attend the Dawn Service in their community at 6 am or the Main Services and Parades later in the morning.

Information about where ANZAC Day services will be held is published on the RSL Tasmania Branch website www.rsltas.org.au and will be published in local newspapers on 24 April 2014.

The Liberal Government is committed to recognising the service and sacrifice of Tasmania's ex-serving community.

That is why we will be providing an additional $100,000pa over three years to the RSL to support their ongoing operation and increased need to support our veteran community.

We also support wholeheartedly the work of Australia's current serving personnel who are deployed to a number of international conflicts and security operations.
