Minister for Justice Michael Keenan and Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier and Member for Bass, Sarah Courtney, today announced an extension of disaster assistance for farmers affected by the June floods.

Minister Keenan said that eligible primary producers in the Launceston local government area can now access additional recovery funding available under the Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).

``Our priority is always to ensure that those in the community most affected by natural disasters can access the assistance they need,’’ Minister Keenan said.

``That is why the Australian and Tasmanian governments are committed to working together through the NDRRA to help local communities and residents recover.’’

Grants of up to $10,000 are now available for farmers in affected parts of Launceston and continue to be available in the Break O’Day, Central Coast, Central Highlands, Kentish, Meander Valley, Northern Midlands, Latrobe and Waratah-Wynyard municipalities announced previously.

Ms Courtney said the grants will make a real difference for flood impacted farmers.

``These funds play an important role in supporting farming families and their communities to get back on their feet,’’ Ms Courtney said.

``Farmers can apply for grants to assist in removing debris and repairing plant and equipment such as fences, pumps and dams.’’

Ms Courtney said that the Tasmanian Government continues to work with rural communities to identify what support may be needed in the future.
