Aspiring Indian business leaders attracted to Tasmania

The Tasmanian Government welcomes the announcement made in Mumbai late yesterday that the prestigious Australian B School is launching a world class education program in Tasmania, which targets aspiring business leaders from across Australia and the world, including India.

Ambassador for Tasmania Ricky Ponting said there will be ongoing benefits for the State by providing training opportunities for high calibre Indian business leaders in Launceston with the B School.

Ricky Ponting, who will be one of the mentors, told the education agents at the launch in Mumbai that he is passionate about passing on his leadership skills, which he developed as the captain of Australia’s cricket team.

``B School’s quality leadership development program will help Australian and Indian executives broaden their experience through first-hand on the ground mentoring from some of Australia’s most noted leaders.

``My experience is unique and I can provide valuable lessons and insights through the program,’’ Mr Ponting said.

Ryan Trainor, Managing Director of B School, said Tasmania presented the perfect location to base the leadership program.

``Tasmania’s mix of focussed education and learning, diverse economy, growth opportunities and high quality facilities made the decision easy for us.

``We are looking forward to working with the Tasmanian Government to make the state the heart of one of the most respected executive programs in the Asia-Pacific region,’’ Mr Trainor said.

B School, in partnership with the Australian School of Applied Management, will deliver a unique residential executive leadership program based in Launceston.

India is the second largest source country for international students at the University of Tasmania, and numbers are on the rise with students attracted to the State’s pristine environment and the opportunity to study at a university that is ranked among the top 2 per cent in the world.

Having worked closely with Coordinator-General John Perry to establish a footprint in Tasmania, the B School will complement Tasmania’s educational offering while adding another dimension to Tasmania’s dynamic visitor economy.

TasTAFE as well as other vocational training and schools are also attending the current trade mission to South East Asia, India and Sri Lanka.

In recognition of the economic and cultural contribution international students make to Tasmania, the Tasmanian Government is making a $113 million investment in education infrastructure in schools, colleges and TasTAFE.

Tasmania has the world class educational opportunities available to stand side-by-side with India and help it reach its ambitious target of up-skilling some 400 million people by 2022 through the Skill India Campaign.

Tasmania has all the ingredients to help international students accomplish their goals and achieve their very best.
