Ask Izzy to direct vulnerable Tasmanians to the services they need

For Tasmanians needing help, knowing where to turn can make all the difference.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to protecting vulnerable Tasmanians and that includes ensuring people are aware of what services are provided in our community.

That’s why we are supporting the not-for-profit Infoxchange in the delivery of AsK Izzy, a new smartphone web app to help people find the support they need.

With more and more people seeking information online, and particularly through smart phones and tablets, Ask Izzy is a powerful tool that will point vulnerable Tasmanians in the right direction.

Users can access the web app at www.askizzy.org.au select a category, such as housing, and answer a few questions anonymously.

Based on their location and their answers, they are then given a list of nearby services, including Housing Connect, which is our one-stop shop for people seeking housing assistance and support.

Infoxchange chief executive officer David Spriggs said Ask Izzy was about making it easier for vulnerable Tasmanians to get help when they need it most.

“Ask Izzy is a free, location-based online directory that will help people experiencing homelessness in Tasmania find food, shelter, health and other critical support services,” Mr Spriggs said.

While the service can be accessed via any internet-connected device, according to Infoxchange, almost 80 per cent of people who are homeless have smart phones and can use free wifi hot spots even without mobile credit.
