The number of apprentices and trainees in training at TasTAFE has grown, reflecting Tasmania’s strong economy under the Hodgman Liberal Government and the increasing demand for skilled workers.
Overall TasTAFE apprentice and trainee enrolments have grown by 5.6 per cent over the past year from 4353 in 2015 to 4595 in 2016.
TasTAFE continues to experience strong demand in apprenticeships and traineeships in a variety of occupations, particularly traditional trades, but also across an increasing range of business and technical areas.
Strong growth in apprentice numbers is continuing across traditional trade areas including automotive, metals, construction and allied trades.
At the end of May 2017, TasTAFE had enrolled more Construction Industry apprentices than for all of 2016.
In 2016, 1349 Construction Industry apprentices were enrolled at TasTAFE. By May 2017 these numbers had already been surpassed with 1396 Construction Industry apprentices enrolled.
There are similar positive results for apprentices in TasTAFE’s southern Metals programs, with 230 enrolled at May 2017 compared to 150 in 2016.
These positive figures reflect TasTAFE’s ability to deliver training that is contemporary and relevant to the needs of industry.
TasTAFE works in partnership with employers and continually seeks feedback in relation to the quality of training.
The use of technology to support and record workplace learning is growing and there is a constant effort to get the right balance of on-the-job training and campus-based training for apprentices and trainees
