Appointment of new Chief Commissioner of the Integrity Commission

Senior Counsel Mr Aziz Gregory (Greg) Melick AO SC has been appointed by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner, as the new Chief Commissioner of the Integrity Commission.

Mr Melick is an experienced barrister who is currently a part time Deputy President of the Commonwealth Administrative Appeals Tribunal. 

He is a highly qualified and nationally respected legal figure, having worked in both private practice and government legal services, and comes to the position with a wealth of experience and expertise that is directly relevant to the role of Chief Commissioner.  He is a former statutory Member of both the National Crime Authority and the New South Wales Casino Control Authority.

As required by the Integrity Commission Act, Mr Melick’s nomination for the position has been the subject of consultation with the Joint Standing Committee on Integrity.

His appointment is for a term of two years, commencing on 17 August 2015.

Mr Melick will replace the outgoing Chief Commissioner, the Hon Murray Kellam AO, whose term in the role concludes on 16 August 2015 after 5 years.

In welcoming Mr Melick to the position, the Government wishes to thank Mr Kellam who played an important role in facilitating the Commission’s establishment.
