The Anzac Day Observance Amendment Bill has passed both Houses of Parliament, making it easier for Tasmanians to better understand their obligations on this important day.
The Bill consolidates all legislative provisions relating to activities that can be undertaken on Anzac Day into one act.
It preserves exemptions currently available for some shop traders to trade on Anzac Day. These shops could include those that deliver essential services in regional areas, like the local grocer that sells bread and milk.
It also streamlines the process for approving exemptions where they are appropriate.
The Bill also ensures that the significance of Anzac Day continues to be maintained, enabling Tasmanians the opportunity to attend Dawn Services and other commemorative services later in the day.
The Returned and Services League Tasmania Branch has been consulted and is supportive of the amendments.
This is further proof of the Hodgman Liberal Government’s commitment to cutting red tape, saving Tasmanian businesses money and helping create jobs.
