Another significant milestone in resetting the relationship

The first ever Tasmanian Aboriginal Community Organisations and Heads of Agency forum was held today in Hobart.

This historic forum represents another significant milestone in our efforts to reset the relationship with the Tasmanian Aboriginal people.

While there is a lot more to be done, the Hodgman Government has and is continuing to take steps to progress reconciliation between the Government and the Tasmanian Aboriginal people, which includes constitutional recognition of Aboriginal people in Tasmania, introducing a new, more inclusive approach for eligibility, and work to ensure we can achieve social, cultural and economic outcomes – while at the same time promoting a greater understanding and acceptance of Aboriginal culture.

I look forward to hosting more of these conversations in the future, so as to improve and enhance engagement between State Government Agencies and our Tasmanian Aboriginal communities.
