Another Milestone for the Brooker Highway

From 7pm this evening traffic conditions at the Brooker Highway junction upgrades will change as the roundabout is removed and replaced with a new, larger intersection controlled by traffic lights. At the same time, northbound traffic on the Brooker will be moved onto new permanent traffic lanes.

To safely move traffic onto the new northbound lanes, traffic at the Elwick/Goodwood and Howard/Renfrew intersections will be stopped in all directions for approximately 15 minutes to completely clear the intersections. This will occur late Friday night or in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Signage is in place to alert motorists to the changing conditions and motorists are encouraged to consider taking alternative routes during the changeover works.

The $32 million Brooker Highway upgrade has been funded by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments and will significantly improve traffic flows, including during the peak traffic periods.

Alongside community members, I have campaigned for years to have safety improved on this section of the Brooker, particularly for pedestrians at the Howard Road intersection from Goodwood.

Tonight’s milestone shows the State and Federal Governments have listened and acted on those community concerns.
