Another major boost for women’s and girls’ sport in Tasmania

Playing sport is key to establishing lifelong healthy habits, and has a range of individual and social benefits, including improving physical and mental health, fostering social skills, and developing teamwork and leadership skills.

Providing greater opportunities for women and girls is a key priority for the Hodgman Liberal Government, which is why we want to grow female participation in Tasmanian sport.

Our $10 million Levelling the Playing Field commitment for women’s and girls’ sport facilities is by far the largest investment per capita by any state or territory government, and it shows the Government’s proud commitment to women’s sport.

Levelling the Playing Field provides grants to sporting organisations and local government so they can upgrade sporting facilities, such as toilets and changes rooms, to be female-friendly.

Today, I am delighted to announce the second round of Levelling the Playing Field grants are now open. I would encourage any local government or sporting organisation wanting to boost female participation to lodge an application.

The first round of the investment program has been incredibly successful, with 21 organisations from across the state successful in receiving funding. This commitment will result in projects worth over $10.1 million in joint investment being delivered in women’s and girls’ sporting facilities.
