Another day, another conspiracy from the Greens

Today's latest conspiracy claims by the Greens confirms they will never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

You've got to wonder if they released the RTI today in an attempt to distract from Cassy O'Connor's embarrassing own-goal where she tried to ban Cold Chisel.

The facts are these: The Greens put in a very wide-ranging RTI trawling for a non-existent smoking gun, and all they found was that the Government and salmon companies engage in regular dialogue - as you would expect.

No doubt if Ms Woodruff's RTI had shown a lack of dialogue she would have complained about that, too.

Our aim is to protect the more than 5000 jobs the industry already supports, and create more of them through the sustainable growth of the industry.

Regarding the Okehampton Bay development - we have been clear from the outset - we support the development and jobs in regional areas.

The area has been licensed to farm finfish since 1998 and attempts to close it down would raise significant issues of sovereign risk for the Government, potentially costing tens of millions of dollars, money we could no longer spend on education and health.

Given the community concern about the impact of salmon farming on the environment in the Okehampton Bay area, in 2016 we asked the independent Marine Farm Planning Review Panel to assess the environmental science behind salmon farming in the area and their independent assessment backed the science.

In addition, the development has now received the tick of approval from the Federal Government.

It's about time the Greens backed the independent umpire’s decision and jobs in regional areas rather than kooky conspiracy theories.
