Another boost for tourism as first flight from Perth lands

Today marks yet another significant occasion for Tasmania’s thriving visitor economy with the arrival of the first Virgin Australia direct flight from Perth to Hobart.

The first of Virgin’s direct flights from Perth is scheduled to land at Hobart Airport later today.

This is another boost for Tasmania’s tourism sector and once again confirms our status as an increasingly popular tourism destination.

The service will operate three days per week on a year round basis, and will add more than 54,000 direct seats a year into Tasmania’s travel market.

As part of the Government’s $12 million investment to market Tasmania as a premium destination to attract higher yielding visitors, Tourism Tasmania will implement a cooperative marketing campaign with the airline to encourage even more Western Australians to book their next holiday here.

The Liberal Government strongly supports growth in our tourism sector as it creates jobs for Tasmanians and investment in our economy.

We welcome visitors arriving in Tasmania from Perth and congratulate Virgin Australia on their initiative in providing a direct air link between Tasmania and Western Australia.
