The Liberal Government is dedicated to preserving the memory of current and ex-service men and women who have fought to protect our freedom, values and way of life.
The horror and tragedy of war is a difficult, but no less important subject to fully understand the foundations of the society in which we currently live.
Today, I announced the six students who have won the 2015-16 Frank MacDonald Memorial Prize.
The prize was established in 2003 to honour of Frank MacDonald, Tasmania’s last surviving World War One veteran.
Since the competition began, thousands of Tasmanian students have entered for the chance to travel the old battlegrounds in Belgium and France in an approximated tour of duty experienced by Frank MacDonald.
This provides the students with an unrivalled opportunity of engaging at a deeper level with the historic significance, but also tragedy of the Great War.
The Prize is open to Tasmanian Year 9 students from government and non-government schools, as well as home-schooled students in the same year level.

The students will be accompanied by two teachers; Emma Jenkins from St Patrick’s College and Karen Pape from Sacred Heart College.
The study tour group will also include Mr Graham Deacon JP representing the Returned and Services League.
