The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to supporting schools to combat bullying, particularly cyber bullying, and ensure safe and supportive school communities.
The recent State Budget allocated $3 million over four years to combat bullying and cyber bullying in all Tasmanian Government schools and to further strengthen the Respectful Schools and Workplaces Framework.
As part of this initiative, we have entered into a partnership with the Alannah and Madeline Foundation to implement anti-cyber bullying programs in Tasmanian Government schools - 157,000 per year over four financial years ($630,000).
Children are learning to navigate the online world at a younger age and we need to equip them with the skills to benefit from the rich digital information available to them while avoiding any risks.
This partnership will see the Alannah and Madeline Foundation support Tasmanian Government schools to improve digital skills and cyber safety for students, and increase staff confidence in this area through the eSmart Schools Program.
The eSmart Schools Program is currently being implemented in over 2,200 schools across Australia.
Our schools are already doing a great deal to ensure cyber safety for our students and the eSmart Schools Program will provide:
All students have a right to be free from discrimination, harassment and bullying and the Tasmanian Government is committed to putting in place programs that directly address the issue of cyber bullying.
