AGENDA 2016 – Third Quarter Update

Agenda 2016 lays out the Tasmanian Government’s practical work-plan for the year.

It includes over 200 initiatives that are part of our long-term Plan.

Today we are releasing the Third Quarter update for the period of October to December 2016, demonstrating the Government’s long term Plan for Tasmania and how we are delivering on it.

Thirty-seven initiatives have been completed, with a further five delayed slightly but expected to be finalised shortly.

The Government’s focus on jobs, health, education and supporting the vulnerable remains.

In the past quarter, we’ve continued to reduce red tape, focused on getting more visitors to Tasmania through our Access 2020 Strategy, launched Round 2 of the EOI process for sensitive tourism in national parks and reserves, and installed a mooring dolphin in Burnie to bring in larger cruise ships.

We’ve progressed new suicide prevention early intervention programs, are getting ready to roll-out new anti-cyber bullying programs into schools, are progressing new laws for mandatory minimum sentences for perpetrators who commit serious sexual offences against children, and are supporting more women onto Boards through our scholarship program.

In the next quarter, the new $6.5 billion Tasmanian superfund will become operational, we’ll host the second TasInvest Summit, begin work on the $21.5 million Huon Highway/Summerleas Road interchange, start preparing for the 2017 Master Games to be held in Tasmania for the first time in 30 years, complete the new State-wide planning system (a year ahead of schedule), continue to increase graduate nurse positions, roll out key initiatives under the Healthy Tasmania strategic plan, and introduce the Respectful Relationships program in all schools from Term 1, as part of the Tasmanian Family Violence Action Plan.

There is still more to be done, and we will continue to implement our Plan for a Brighter Future as outlined in AGENDA 2016.
