Jobs creation and building skills is a key priority for the Hodgman Liberal Government and a key part of our Plan to Build Your Future.
Today key community and industry peak bodies are meeting to discuss skills challenges at the fourth annual Strategic Community and Industry Partners Ministerial Skills Forum.
Participants included our industry and employer representative bodies as well as our vital community sector. They also represent our identified priority sectors where growth is outstripping new recruits and skills gaps are emerging.
Feedback from the forum will help to inform the Tasmanian Government’s future priorities for workforce development and training and guide the investment of over $100 million dollars of training and workforce development funds each year.
By supporting industries and employers to undertake regular workforce development planning and aligning training investment to identified needs we can help develop the workforce of the future.
This year’s Budget included $18.9 million to turbo-charge TasTAFE’s job creating infrastructure.
This includes:
These investments are only possible due to the Government’s strong financial management.
The Government has also extended the Payroll Tax Rebate scheme for apprentices and trainees with a focus on addressing areas of identified shortages. The extension to June 2021 will support around 3000 new apprenticeships and traineeships.
Our investments in skill development are already working with Tasmania continuing to show strong growth in trades training with commencements up 20.7 per cent compared to the 12 months prior.
A feedback report on the 2018 Strategic Community and Industry Partners Ministerial Forum including key outcomes and actions will be released soon.
