The Hodgman Liberal Government is the strongest supporter of the veteran and ex-serving community in Tasmania.
For the past three years, we have provided the Returned and Services League (RSL) with additional funding of $100,000 per year, on top of the existing recurrent funding of $100,000.
To recognise the important work of the RSL, the Tasmanian Government will continue this additional $100,000 for another 12 months in this year’s State Budget.
This funding will be put towards establishing a ‘retreat’ at the Dago Point Reserve, Lake Sorell, for use by ex-service men and women, to spend time away with their families.
It is anticipated the refurbishment of an old shack that is largely now a surplus asset in the Reserve will be completed as a partnership between the RSL, corporate trade sponsors and recently returned ex-serving personnel, providing them with a project on which to focus as they rebuild their lives, while also providing a benefit to the ex-serving community for years to come.
The Tasmanian Government is currently in the process of negotiating a long-term lease of the shack which will also allow continued and shared access of the hut for Parks and Wildlife staff and wildlife rangers for management purposes in the area.
The Dago Point Reserve is currently also home to a Vietnam Veterans Bush Retreat.
The RSL has more than 51 sub-branches across the State and is Tasmania’s leading support and representative organisation for members of the veteran and ex-serving community, and the Hodgman Liberal Government is proud to support their endeavours.
