ABS confirms massive increase in dwellings being built in Tasmania

Building Activity data released today by the ABS confirms a massive increase in dwellings being built in Tasmania.

In the March 2018 quarter, dwelling commencements were up 31.4 per cent compared to the same time last year.

This was the highest growth rate in Australia and nearly ten times the national average.

The corresponding value of new residential building work commenced also increased 25 per cent in the year to March 2018, compared to the previous year.

The solution to the current housing shortage is to build more houses, and these encouraging figures confirm our long term plan is working.

The increased activity as a result of initiatives such as extending the $20,000 First Home Owners Grant and a land tax exemption for up to 3 years for all new-build housing that is leased for long term rental will create jobs and grow our economy right across the state.
