Building Activity data released today by the ABS confirms that the nation-leading growth in the number of dwellings being built in Tasmania is continuing.
The number of dwelling units commenced in Tasmania in the June quarter 2018 was 29 per cent higher than a year ago in trend terms. This was again the highest annual growth rate in Australia, and three times the national rate of growth.
At the same time, Tasmania had the fastest rate of growth in Australia in the number of dwelling units completed in the June 2018 quarter, which increased by 22.8 per cent compared to the June 2017 quarter.
This significant growth in the number of dwelling unit commencements and completions is a demonstration of confidence in the Tasmanian economy under the Hodgman Liberal Government.
These latest economic indicators, along with my announcement yesterday of a further 950 training places to ensure we have the skilled workers now and into the future to keep the momentum going, is evidence that our Plan is delivering for Tasmanians.
