A review of the model for returning land to the Aboriginal Community is underway as a crucial part of the Tasmanian Government’s Reset Agenda.
The Discussion Paper - Improving the model for returning land to the Aboriginal community is now open for consultation, and all Tasmanians are encouraged to contribute, with targeted consultations planned for Aboriginal community organisations, groups and other key stakeholders.
The return of land to Tasmania’s Aboriginal people is part of the Government’ Reset Agenda and has been an important way to progress reconciliation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Tasmanians.
Today, on International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, the Government also acknowledges our strong working relationship with the Tasmanian Regional Aboriginal Communities Alliance (TRACA), and the seven regional Aboriginal member organisations they represent, as acknowledged with the signing of the Statement of Intent (SoI) in December 2017.
To ensure TRACA can meet the costs associated with governance, engagement, representation and advisory functions, we will provide additional funding to the organisation for the remainder of 2018-19.
