A win for farm school and for common-sense

The Brighton Council's common-sense decision to withdraw a notification demanding the removal of animals from the Jordan River farm school is to be commended.

Farm schools provide a hands-on learning experience for Tasmanian students, and the Liberal Government has made very clear how valuable we believe they are.

The strength of the public reaction demonstrates that the community agrees.

Today's decision is undoubtedly a victory for the community and the students, and it is to the credit of the council that it listened and responded to community concerns.

Tomorrow, I will be meeting with Brighton Mayor Tony Foster and will continue to work constructively with the council to ensure the Jordan River farm school's long-term future is secured on its current site.

The Government believes that farm schools help to bridge the gap between rural and urban Tasmania.
