A strong economy delivering more jobs

Tasmania now has the strongest growing economy in the nation for the first time in almost 15 years, and the Government has a budget and a plan to maintain this momentum and invest for growth.

Today’s Australian Bureau of Statistics labour force data for May 2019 shows there are now nearly 13,000 more Tasmanians in work than when the Hodgman Liberal Government came to office.

The data also shows that 200 additional jobs were created in the month in trend terms, which further demonstrates that the Hodgman Liberal Government’s economic leadership is working for Tasmanians. At the same time, the unemployment rate has decreased by 0.1 per cent from that reported last month.

But we know there is more to do, that’s why the 2019-20 State Budget delivers record investments in infrastructure, health and education which will underpin the creation of around 10,000 jobs over the next four years.
