A strong Australian shipbuilding industry is good for Tasmania

The Hodgman Liberal Government welcomes the Federal Government’s commitment to the Australian defence shipbuilding sector.

We want to see Tasmania secure a larger share of national defence spending, to support economic growth and create jobs across our state. Bringing forward this defence spending generates potential job-creating opportunities for Tasmanian companies.

There is a number of world-class Tasmanian manufacturing companies with the potential to play a part in the supply chain this spending will create.

We already know that businesses such as Taylor Brothers, CBG Systems and Liferaft Systems have proven capability supporting major defence contracts.

Tasmanian manufacturing expertise is recognised and valued across Australia and the world and it is important local businesses have the best possible opportunities to grow.

The Government is already actively promoting opportunities and assisting businesses interested in the Defence sector and we remain committed to supporting this sector and ensuring our companies are best positioned to tender for work supporting this build.
