A documentary about the ancient art of Tasmanian Aboriginal shell stringing, kanalaritja: An Unbroken String, has been selected to play at film festivals around the world.
Co-funded by Screen Tasmania and the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG), and based on the award winning TMAG exhibition of the same name, the Roar Film documentary has received four international film festival invitations since its release online and DVD in February.
These include the Red Nation Film Festival and Tribal Film Festival in the USA, Barcelona Planet Film Festival in Spain and the Eurasia Film Festival in Russia.
kanalaritja: An Unbroken String is also due to be broadcast to homes across Australia on NITV next month.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to supporting the growth of the cultural and creative industries in the State and this film marks the first time Screen Tasmania and TMAG have collaborated on a film project.
The TMAG exhibition of the same name also received the prestigious Australian and New Zealand Museum and Galleries Award for Best Indigenous Project.
Congratulations to all involved and in sharing the important story of Tasmanian Aboriginal shell stringing within our community, across the country and now internationally.
