The Hobart International's reputation for attracting the world's best continues with Australian tennis star Casey Dellacqua returning for the event that's synonymous with the Tasmanian summer.
Last year a record 15,400 fans were courtside for the event, injecting about $2 million into our economy and driving media exposure valued at more than $3.5 million.
There's no doubt the Hobart International is putting Tasmania on the map, drawing high calibre players from across the globe, along with coaches, support staff and their family to Tasmania.
The Liberal Government is committed to building on our competitive strengths such as events and tourism, which is why we have contributed $50,000 to this year's event and $75,000 each for 2016 and 2017.
But the value
for Tasmania goes well beyond the economics. Tasmanians love their sport and
the Hobart International offers the chance to watch world class tennis in our
own back-yard.
To draw the likes of Casey
to the Hobart International is a testament to the event, the organisers and our
state.
Casey will use the 2015 Hobart International as a warm-up for the Australian Open, after a rapid rise to the top 30 in the world – a career best.
The Hobart International will run from January 11 to 17 at the Domain Tennis Centre.
