26TEN Progress Report - strong improvement towards all goals

Today’s release of the first annual progress report on 26TEN Tasmania: Tasmania’s Strategy for Adult Literacy and Numeracy 2016-2025, shows strong improvement in all areas.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has committed $4.5 million to resourcing 26TEN and the LINC Literacy Network because we know improved numeracy and literacy builds the skills required for a better life and work.

26TEN is a long-term strategy for all Tasmanians - businesses, community groups, government, education and training providers, and individuals - who want to live in a state where all adults have the reading, writing, numeracy and communication skills they need for life.

This is the first report of progress against the two-year 26TEN Action Plan and it uses stories and examples to show strong progress towards all of the goals. There is an increase in 26TEN activity across the state, more business and communities involved in the effort, and more people being supported to increase their literacy and numeracy skills.

In the 12 months since the launch of 26TEN Tasmania, the awareness of 26TEN and its messages are growing. The website has had more visitors, there has been a large growth in social media, the 26TEN telephone hotline has increased, and the popular 26TEN Literacy Awareness workshop was updated and delivered to 450 participants in 32 sessions across the state.

To date, 598 member organisations and supporters have taken action and joined 26TEN.
