The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to providing opportunities for Tasmanians to learn throughout life, and the 26TEN approach to lifting adult literacy and numeracy levels means better opportunities to get a good job and to have a better life.
The 26TEN Coalition members volunteer their time to advocate for adult literacy and numeracy in the organisations and communities in the sectors they represent. Five coalition members for the 26TEN Tasmanian Adult Literacy Strategy- Daryl Quilliam, as the Chair of the Coalition, Siobhan Gaskell as Convenor of the Coalition, along with Tim Tierney, Malcolm Wells, and Mellissa Gray, have been extended for another two years, from November 2017.
Dr Judith Watson, Kym Goodes and Simon Wiggins, appointed in 2016, are also making a great contribution in their sectors, and will continue in their roles until November 2018.
I sincerely thank outgoing 26TEN Coalition member, Angela Ross, for her efforts in increasing awareness of literacy issues. Most recently she worked tirelessly to present, judge and promote the inaugural 26TEN UTas Media Award, helping 26TEN tell the stories that move people to take action.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to improving education outcomes in Tasmania, because a good education is helping more Tasmanians contribute fully to our state. The 26TEN program is integral to our 10 year strategy for improving adult literacy and numeracy outcomes in this state.
Earlier this year, we announced 26TEN grants to 13 businesses, to lift literacy and numeracy skills in their workplaces, as well as additional funds for a 10 year plan to help more Tasmanians get the skills they need for life and work.
